Italian Rapier with curved guard, 16th Century

This is a very beautiful replica of an Italian rapier with curved hilt from the 16th Century. With the end of the Middle Ages the blades became longer and smaller because the combat techniques changed. The common sword has now been replaced by the more elegant rapier. During the Renaissance the wearing of a rapier has also been a gentleman’s status symbol. Higher nobles like counts or barons wore longer blades, lower noblemen shorter blades.

The hilt is made of animal bones.
